Reader Reviews I purchased these for my wife because she would stop what she was doing when helping with home improvement and cover her ears during my sawing or drilling. Regular ear protection worked, but she never took them off, so I had to yell at her several times to get her attention. These came in as a good moderate solution. They fit comfortable, easily adjust and allow you to her the radio or conversation in the room. The sound is a bit tinny and somewhat directional since the microphone is only on one side. Once a loud noise occurs, they cut out the microphone and work as regular protection until the noise stops. My only complaint is that I was using them with a router and a dovetail jig while listening to the radio. If I dropped a clamp or tool on the table, they would kick in for a brief second if I did not place it down softly. It was annoying to have them cut out for a second and then cut back in. For my regular work, I switched back to the regular set with a pair of my MP3 player ear buds underneath for uninterrupted music. Still great if you have others working with you though.
