What is SDHC? To support the higher capacity needs, SD cards are now requiring a different design. The new SD 2.0 specifications which supports 4GB and up, is called Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC). The SD Association has created and defined 3 speed classes to help you identify speed and performance capabilities/minimum requirements of SDHC cards and their SDHC host products. Cards address data (read and write) at numerous speeds. Many factors impede this performance. SDHC guarantees a minimum read and write speed necessary to handle recording high quality video and audio. The maximum card speed may vary, but you can always depend on SDHC cards to meet your SDHC host product's high quality performance requirements. SDHC Compatibility Information Because SDHC works differently (supports the new higher capacity cards) this new card format is not backwards compatible with legacy SD format host devices. Product Description The SanDisk Extreme III 4GB SDHC memory card offers speed, performance and reliability to ensure you get your photos every time. A 4GB memory card can store more than 2,000 high-resolution pictures or up to 8 hours of MPEG 4 video. As an added bonus, the card is packaged with a bonus SanDisk MicroMate so that users have a one-stop shop solution for capturing, storing and transferring their images. Reader Reviews I bought a new Canon PowerShot G9 recently. I had to buy a new memory card. My Canon PowerShot G6 took CompactFlash cards. Comparison between CF and SDHC Cost I had to buy a 2 GB CF card at RadioShack for $80 while I was on Vacation in July. I bought this SDHC for $63, which includes a reader. Download Speed This card is much faster than the CF by far. It takes me half the time or more to download photos. Whereas my pictures on my Canon G6 ranged from 1 to 3 MB, the pictures from my Canon G9 range from 3 to 5 MB. I never take the card out of the camera. I simply hook my camera up to the computer via a USB cord. It saves wear and tear on the card. I don't really use that much battery power from the camera. Comments (4) | Permalink | (Report this)
