Reader Reviews My old computer died, so I had to get a new one. Which of course means Vista. I couldn't get my old printer to work with the new computer, so I bought this one - "100% Vista compatible", or so I was told. Well, it didn't compat very well. I used the installation disk and went through the normal procedure. Everything went well until it told me to connect the USB cable and turn the printer on. After doing so, it sat there for a few minutes and finally told me the device was not responding. I tried this several more times, and also downloaded the latest drivers from Canon's website and tried installing those several times. Same problem. And yes - I did buy a new USB cable in case that was the problem. It made no difference at all. I eventually ended up taking it to the Geek Squad at a local store, and after charging me about half what I paid for the printer, it now works. Text documents print fast, pictures look great, and the scanner and copier features work just fine. Woo-hoo. I've had a home PC for over ten years now, and while I'm certainly no computer expert, I am fairly knowledgeable. Let me put it this way, I've installed plenty of printers and other hardware and software before with no problems. If it takes more than my level of technical knowledge to install one of these things, then that's too much to expect. Since the guy who worked on my computer wasn't there when I picked it up (and the people who were there had no idea what was done with it), I don't know if it was a problem with the printer, the software, my computer or Vista. All I know is that I couldn't get this thing to work without paying a professional to do it for me. So, 5 stars for the printer, 0 stars for difficulty and expense of getting it to work. Averages out to 3 stars. Comment (1) | Permalink | (Report this)
