It is one of a select handful of childhood gifts that left enough of an impression that I still remember it today. This microscope is inexpensive, compact, hardy, and easy to use. No messing around with slides and such. You just place the end of the microscope on whatever you want to look at, turn the light on, and focus. I carried this around with me a lot, to look at bugs, plants, the fibers of fabric, my own skin, and whatever else caught my eye. It lasted from when I was 8 until well into high school. The relatively low magnification makes it unsuitable for serious scientific work, but for the scientifically curious child or adult, this microscope is a must have.
